“Dog Fight On Wheels” by Gerald Fried for THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.

UPDATE: The complete recording of this evening is now available on THE JAZZ FROM U.N.C.L.E., which you can order here: http://thejazzfromuncleliveinconcert….

One night only, on Sept. 27, 2014, at The Golden Anniversary Affair commemorating the 50th anniversary of the original “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.,” the original underscore from the show was played from the original charts by a six-piece combo, “The Summit Six Sextet.” The combo totally nailed the rhythms and arrangements in an hour-long performance in the nightclub of the DoubleTree byHilton Hotel Los Angeles-Westside. This action cue was composed by Gerald Fried for quarry chase scene in the outstanding second-season UNCLE two-part season opener, “The Alexander the Greater Affair.” The cue was later used under the titles for the ensuing feature film, “One Spy Too Many.”

The evening was a labor of love and a gift to us all from film music journalist Jon Burlingame and organizer Robert Short, much to the delight of Gerald Fried, whom we were privileged to have in the audience. Our appreciation to Steve Rosenblum on sax, Yu Ooka on guitar, Dean Koba on drums, Nedra Wheeler on bass, Dave Iwataki on keyboards, and combo leader David Lamont on flute.
