Ragnheidur Sara Sigmundsdottir (born 12 September 1992) is an Icelandic weightlifter and CrossFit athlete known for her third-place finishes at the 2015 and 2016 CrossFit Games and her first-place finishes at the 2015 and 2016 Meridian Regionals and the 2017 Central Regionals. She was featured in 2017 documentary ‘Fittest on Earth: A Decade of Fitness’. She competed at the 2015 World Weightlifting Championships in the 75 kg category.
Ragnheiður Sara Sigmundsdottir has competed at the CrossFit Games twice and finished on the podium both times. The Icelandic native first made a name for herself when, after taking third worldwide in the 2015 Open, she won the 2015 Meridian Regional, outperforming several former Games athletes including two-time champion Annie Thorisdottir. In her debut Games appearance that year, Sigmundsdottir continued to shock and and awe, nearly winning the title but relinquishing it in the final event to finish third. Though fans may have wondered if the lead was a fluke, she proved otherwise with a nearly identical performance in 2016, taking fourth in the Open and once again winning the Meridian Regional and finishing third at the Games, taking seven top-five finishes. Known for her buoyant personality and love for pizza, Sigmundsdottir is a trainer at CrossFit Sudurnes in Reykjanesbaer, Iceland.
Iceland has produced more than its fair share of world class CrossFit competitors, but even among these ranks, Rogue athlete Ragnheiður Sara Sigmundsdottir has made a unique and memorable impact.
At just 24 years of age, this 2017 Worldwide Open winner has already managed a pair of Meridian Regional titles, a victory in her debut at the U.S. Central Regional, and three consecutive Top 5 finishes at the Games (3rd in 2015 and 2016, 4th in 2017). She remains one of the odds-on favorites to take the next step and claim the crown of Fittest Woman on Earth in 2018.
Sigmundsdottir made a bold decision to leave her native Iceland and train in the U.S. this past year, but after seeing it pay off with a dominant performance in Nashville and another strong showing at the Games, she might be here to stay.
